The SHUNAMMITE bowl by Maalström is turned from oak, with walls just 4–5 mm thick. The rim remains deliberately irregular — following the original shape of the wood rather than a predetermined design.

"To be honest, Shunammite is a fairly fragile object. The walls are just 4–5 millimetres thin, which makes it feel surprisingly light and delicate, even though it's turned from oak.

The rim is intentionally irregular. I wanted the bowl to reflect the original piece of wood I clamped onto the lathe — a piece that was unbalanced, uneven, and full of character. Instead of forcing a perfect shape onto it, I chose to follow what was already there.

Even though it's a newly made object, I often feel like I'm holding something much older in my hands. There's a strange stillness in it, a trace of time, as if it had lived through more days than I have myself.

That's exactly what makes Shunammite so beautiful to me."
